Some tips regarding submissions for ‘The Message’:

Why is the submission date a month before the paper arrives in my mailbox?

Many people are involved in the newspaper process. Once your article arrives at the office, it is edited twice. It then goes to the pre-print manager for layout, final editing, and addition of advertising (as needed). The final layout then travels to the printing press, the post office, the postal delivery service, and finally your mailbox. Phew! Quite the traveling! This is why it is so important to have your article in on time. Each phase has its own deadlines.

Why are my articles edited?

Articles are edited for content clarification, spelling, grammar, length, and appearance. This helps make a great, professional publication that is suitable for distribution across our membership. Not everyone has the gift of writing, but everyone has the gift of great ideas! We are here to help make your submission its best!

Why do I need to send in high-quality photos?

High-quality photos in .jpg or .png formats (most digital cameras) or actual high-quality prints are required for clear printing in the newspaper. Lower resolution or paper copies do not print well and may be blurry.

Why should my photos be separate from my article submission?

Photos embedded within word documents or pdf’s do not transfer well for the printing process and are typically blurry or unusable for the paper.

Why should I provide original articles and photos or give credit?

If you submit an article or photo that is someone else’s work, please provide the credit information (name, source). It is important that original authors/artists are credited so we provide a credible, plagiarism-free publication.
