Northwestern Division National Vice President 2026NW Division National Vice President to Visit Convention

The American Legion Auxiliary Department of North Dakota welcomes Shareen Johnson, Northwestern Division National Vice President, as a guest to the 2026 Department Convention. Vice President Johnson is a 42-year member of Don Stough Unit 33 of Lander, Wyoming.

Vice President Johnson’s eligibility comes through her father, Master Chief Petty Officer John Sturgeon, who served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a naval submariner, and her twin sister, Kathleen Ebert, who retired after serving 20 years in the U.S. Navy.

Vice President Johnson worked as a medical transcriptionist with an orthopedic surgery group for 21 years. She then worked for 12 years for the State of Wyoming with the Department of Health at the Wyoming Life Resource Center, a facility for intellectually disabled and dual diagnosis residents, until retiring in 2022. Not one to sit around and twiddle her thumbs, Vice President Johnson left retirement behind and found full-time work at a grocery store as the staff scheduler and pricing coordinator.

Welcome to 2026 Department Convention

Carol Wolf, President of Gilbert C. Grafton Unit 2 Fargo and Carol Grieve, President of Richard E. Nelson Unit 297 Harwood, and their team of convention volunteers welcome members of the American Legion Family to the 2026 American Legion Department Convention. The event will be held June 26-28 at the Ramada by Wyndham, (formerly Doublewood), 3333 13th Ave South in Fargo, North Dakota.

The Convention Committee encourages everyone to experience not only the convention events but to get out and enjoy the dining and shopping experiences the community of Fargo-Moorhead has to offer. Welcome to Fargo and enjoy your stay!

Proposed revisions for Governing documents are posted below. Writings in red (within the document) are the proposed changes.

Based on recommendation of the Committee appointed by Department President, Candace Berg, the Department Standing Rules are now sorted into categories. We are confident that the categories will make it easier to find specific rules and make future revisions when necessary.

Please review with your members and be prepared to vote on them at the 2026 Department Convention in June.

Convention Contest for Year 250

2026 is America’s 250th Birthday!  Let’s celebrate America and the Auxiliary’s Poppy Program at the 2026 Department Convention.  Sandra Petermann, Northwestern Division Poppy Chairman along with  Carol Wolf and Cheryl Gustafson, Department Poppy Co-Chairmen, invite members of the American Legion Family to enter the ‘Art Exhibit’ at this year’s Department Convention.  The only caveat is:  the art piece must be original, the theme is “America’s 250th Birthday” and you must incorporate poppies in your work.  Enter a colorful poster, painting, quilt, a garment or hat, or other art piece.  The more patriotic, the better.  Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
