Time to ask for an education resolution. There are a few more important education dates before this administrative year ends. Will you resolve to complete at least one more activity?
March 1 – National Scholarships due 11:59 pm Eastern Time
• Write a letter to your local newspaper publicizing national, Department and unit scholarships.
April 1 – Department Scholarships due 11:59 pm Central Time
• Support unit, Department, and national scholarships monetarily – individually, through your unit or host a fundraiser.
• Consider starting a unit scholarship if you do not have one. My unit gives each graduating junior member $15 for each year of membership. $300 if member joined at birth. (Thanks, Linton, for the idea.)
April 1 – Purple Up Day, information available at alaforvererans.org
• Remember your junior members who are children of the National Guard. My unit sends them a thank you note with $10 for a treat and includes $ for any brothers.
April 15 – End of Year Reports due. Please let me know the projects, individual members and what your unit supported this year.
May 5 – National Teacher Appreciation Day (Teacher Appreciation Week May 4-8)
• Treats are always welcome
• Yard signs
• Patriotic books for classrooms
• Seeds (maybe poppy) or plants (red, white, blue) for a school or home flower garden
May 1 (11:59 CT) – Unit award application due to NDALA Education Chair Lynn Tomlinson
