The ‘Unit Member of the Year’ award recognizes members of our units who exemplify the value and ideals of the American Legion Auxiliary. Those members work hard to support their units, improve the unit’s programs, and have a positive impact on our communities.

Look for that special member in your unit that exemplifies those ideals and has not held an office higher than Unit President. Then, nominate them for the ‘Unit Member of the Year’ award.

2025 Unit Member of Year

American Legion Auxiliary Department of North Dakota is proud to announce that Lynn Helm of McClusky, ND, was selected as 2025 Unit Member of the Year by the American Legion Auxiliary Department of North Dakota.

Lynn was nominated for this distinguished honor by James Roberts Unit 124 of McClusky. Lynn exemplifies the values and ideals of the Auxiliary to the utmost degree. Her leadership in the McClusky Auxiliary unit is exemplary.

Lynn’s accomplishments and activities have been in direct relationship to the values of the Auxiliary. As a true patriot, Lynn supports the Auxiliary’s Americanism program. She shares ideas and lessons with the public school from the suggested Americanism project and was instrumental in organizing a community flag retirement ceremony held this spring. Lynn further shows dedication to community as president of her church’s ladies group and by supporting projects for her church.

In true leader fashion, Lynn’s strength, dependability, and responsibility help get things done in every group she is a member of. Lynn is a retired Sheridan County Recorder and is the wife of a retired rancher/farmer.

As president of the McClusky unit, Lynn remains focused on veterans and leads her unit to support important veterans projects. Always with a ‘get it done’ attitude, Lynn stays informed on new and existing Auxiliary programs and is helpful in organizing programs to benefit our veterans. Lynn’s Auxiliary activities include ’10 for Education’, American Education Week’, recognition of our teachers, the local annual Auxiliary Awards Luncheon, Gift Baskets for Vets, Christmas gifts for veterans residing in nursing homes, and fundraising for the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon, as well as many projects benefiting the McClusky community.

Congratulations on a job well done, Lynn!
