Hello Auxiliary Members!

Community Service is one of the many important programs that are part of the American Legion Auxiliary. It is one where our members have an opportunity to engage with the public and show them what we do, how we do it, and why we do it.

4/25/26 – American Legion Family Day

American Legion Family Day- Start planning now. Involve the entire American Legion Family.  Share pictures and information about your event to receive an American Legion Family Day Citation from ALA National President Pam Ray, National Commander Dan Wiley, and SAL National Commander Bill Clancy III. Must have participation from members of all the American Legion Family.

Ann Ritacco, National Community Service for Northwestern Division is in search of Units that may have held a successful American Legion Family Day event in the last year or so. The following information explains what they are looking for.

We are in the planning stages of a webinar in February.  We are looking for 2 guest speakers for the webinar that have held a successful American Legion Family Day, (ALFD) event at the unit/post level.  We will need a contact name, phone and email for these units.  I would love to see the Northwestern Division showcased in this webinar.

If your unit has held an event and would like to take part in the webinar, please let me know as soon as possible so I can get the information to Ann.

Other types of Community Service events include: 5K freedom walks with proceeds going to Auxiliary programs, clothing drives, volunteering to serve a meal at a homeless shelter, hosting a blood drive, volunteering at church or school, sew or knit for a nursing home, donate food for a food drive (do a Truck or Feed instead of Trunk or Treat), parades. These are just a few examples of the almost endless list of community events. Some community events are considered part of other programs like: Children & Youth, Education, Americanism, VA & R, and National Security.

If you are unsure how to count your volunteer hours, let me know and I will find the answer for you. Submit your event photos, and include who, what unit, and what event. Send pictures in high resolution JPG or PNG format. I will forward them to our Northwestern Division Chair for her monthly newsletter. Email to communityservice@ndala.org.

I look forward to hearing from every unit. Let us help North Dakota stand out with all our Community Service events!

Thank you.
