Cavalier Spreads Holiday Cheer with “Taste of Home”
In a heartwarming display of community support and holiday spirit, Cavalier Auxiliary Unit 11 kicked off its third annual “Taste of Home” project. They prepared twenty-one Christmas packages for active-duty military service members who have ties to the Cavalier community.
This project aims to bring a taste of home to those serving our country, ensuring they feel the warmth of the holidays. This year, the packages included not only two issues of the Cavalier Chronicle, the local newspaper that connects service members with their hometown, but also an assortment of delicious treats. Recipients enjoyed homemade candy, savory beef sticks, the locally-beloved Widman’s Chocolates, and crunchy Dots Pretzels, all designed to evoke cherished memories of home and family gatherings during the holiday season.
The success of this year’s project was made possible by generous donations from Auxiliary and community members and a generous donation from the local thrift store by covering the postage expense. Their support underscores the community’s commitment to honoring and supporting brave men and women in uniform. “We are thrilled to continue this tradition and provide a little piece of home to our service members during the holidays,” said Kaye Furstenau, Unit 11 President. “It’s a small gesture of gratitude for their sacrifice, and we hope it brings them joy and comfort.”
The American Legion Auxiliary encourages community members to continue supporting this initiative and others like it, as they work to foster connections between those at home and the brave men and women serving in the military. The “Taste of Home” Christmas packages serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by service members and the enduring connection between them and their communities back home.
