On April 5-6, 2014 Department Training was held in Bismarck, ND at the Comfort Inn. Thirty-nine members registered for the event, coming from North Dakota, Nebraska and South Dakota .  2013-2014 National Leadership Chairman Coral Grout and National Poppy Chairman Brenda Collins presented seven sessions.  Sessions included:

  • Team Building– Vision Becomes Passion
  • The Golden Rule in Member Relations
  • Mentoring the Next  Generation of Leaders
  • How to Choose and Develop Leaders
  • Developing Financial Practices at the Unit
  • Level and Beyond
  • Department Chairmanships– Earning, Serving, and Appointing
  • Governance and Governing Documents

This training was a new initiative developed by national ALA leaders in response to what members have said they needed.  Sessions offered in-depth training on key topics such as governance, leadership development, member relations and fostering goodwill, team building and more. The training was designed to benefit ALA unit and district members interested in taking on leadership  roles, and current department leaders eager to learn how to improve their department operations and be more effectively-managed departments.
